Do to others as you would have them do to you?

Most everyone has heard the saying “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” but do you ever wonder (I know I have ALOT) does that mean that if someone treats me bad, I should in turn treat them bad because that’s how they want me to treat them?

If you are a religious person, you should know that there’s more to that “saying” than just that…The rest of that bible passage is:

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:27-31

So what that actually means to me is, pray for the person that is treating you badly, act kindly to them and forgive them for treating bad. That does NOT mean to let people just walk all over you and treat you like a doormat. Which personally I tend to do because I absolutely HATE confrontation, I hate it so much that I have a hard time watching reality TV where people argue and fight, it just makes me feel so uncomfortable.

There is a truly wonderful book titled “The Devil in Pew Number Seven” I truly believe that EVERYONE should read this book. I usually have a hard time reading anything other than fiction but this book is an award winning Autobiography written by  Rebecca Nichols Alonzo that took place when she and her family were living in Sellerstown, North Carolina which is a small town located close to the NC Coast South of Elizabethtown, Southeast of Lumberton, West of Wilmington and Northeast of Oak Island/Sunset Beach.

The description of the book reads “Rebecca never felt safe as a child. In 1969, her father, Robert Nichols, moved to Sellerstown, North Carolina, to serve as a pastor. There he found a small community eager to welcome him—with one exception. Glaring at him from pew number seven was a man obsessed with controlling the church. Determined to get rid of anyone who stood in his way, he unleashed a plan of terror that was more devastating and violent than the Nichols family could have ever imagined. Refusing to be driven away by acts of intimidation, Rebecca’s father stood his ground until one night when an armed man walked into the family’s kitchen . . . And Rebecca’s life was shattered. If anyone had a reason to harbor hatred and seek personal revenge, it would be Rebecca. Yet The Devil in Pew Number Seven tells a different story. It is the amazing true saga of relentless persecution, one family’s faith and courage in the face of it, and a daughter whose parents taught her the power of forgiveness.”

I have to continually tell myself that if Rebecca can forgive those that wronged her and her family than surely I can forgive “middle school drama & cliques” in the work place. I know a lot of times it’s so much easier said than done, but I have to remember to breath and let go, because Prison Orange is NOT my color!!!

Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted. In one moment Would you capture it, or just let it slip? ~ Eminem

I mentioned in my first post that I really don’t consider myself much of a SciFi fan, remember that? Typically when I think of SciFi I think of Aliens and Outer Space…I know there’s much more to Science Fiction than that, for example Super Hero’s are consider SciFi, Werewolves, Vampires, Zombies, Mutants, Robots, and Paranormal stuff are all categorized under the SciFi label.

But my favorite is Time Travel…I mean come on; who doesn’t like the Back to the Future movies?!?

I don’t know why I’m so fascinated with Time Travel (before you ask, No I don’t believe it’s possible to travel in time.) Like I said before, I love the Back to the Future movies as well as both the Movie & TV Series “12 Monkeys” I’ve also gotten hooked on the new series “Timeless” and I absolutely love the Book Trilogy of In Times Like These by Nathan Van Coops.

But what really got me to thinking about this post was after watching the TV Mini-Series of 11.22.63 which was adapted from Steven King’s Novel. I got this from Netflix as a 2 disc set and I was able to watch the first disc one night and the second the following night. And it got me thinking; if you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be and why?

I honestly don’t think I would want change anything (I’ll explain in a minute) but how awesome would it be to go and visit monumental events in History? (In no particular order)  To witness the Signing of the Deceleration of Independence, the Boston Tea Party, the Gettysburg Address, the Dedication of The Statue of Liberty, the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, MLK Jr’s I Have A Dream Speech, the Apollo Moon Landing, the fall of the Berlin Wall. Even the unpleasant things like the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, JFK, MLK Jr, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or to find out what REALLY happened during the Watergate Scandal…

I think it would be so awesome to be able to go to a concert or performance of artists that may no longer be with us…to go see the Beatles during the “British Invasion”, to see Elvis in his younger years, Janis Joplin, The Ramones, Otis Redding, Jerry Garcia (I know Chef would love that one) Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, the original members of Lynard Skynard…I could go on and on, by the way do you notice something there? I really enjoy older music, back before they started this “edited manufactured crap” as I call most music today. Back in the old days you had to have real talent or you didn’t make it.

Okay sorry, I got a little off topic there. Back to explaining why I would rather witness things instead of trying to change them…this may sound a bit corny but I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Everything both good and bad leads us to where we are in life and makes us the person we are. If you were to change ONE thing in your past (that ONE thing that maybe you wish you hadn’t done) could change things so that you never met the love of your life, then you may not have had your child/children, which would then lead to never having the grandkids you might have.
I’m sure you’ve all heard of the Butterfly Effect, right? The theory, not the movie…
This effect grants the power to cause a hurricane in China to a butterfly flapping its wings in New Mexico. It may take a very long time, but the connection is real. If the butterfly had not flapped its wings at just the right point in space/time, the hurricane would not have happened. A more rigorous way to express this is that small changes in the initial conditions lead to drastic changes in the results

I also think that everyone we meet in our life has an effect on us in one way or another (good or bad.) I think people’s personalities, habits, mannerisms all rub off on us in some way, that is why I always try my best to treat others with respect and kindness, even when they may not really deserve it.

Okay enough of that, I want to try something to maybe generate more interaction on the blog posts, COMMENT ON THIS POST with what you would want to do or see if could travel in time. Where would you go, what time would you want to go to, what would you do? Would you try to change something like kill Hitler before he ever came into power or try to stop an assassination?

What I want to do is after I get a few posts i want to do a random drawing for some type of prize, I’m thinking I would like to maybe try to do something related to this post but I can’t say for sure because I don’t want to ruin the surprise 😉

    Public Service Announcement:

So when I published my first blog on Friday I had a good idea about what my next post was going to be about; then over the weekend with certain events I changed my mind and was going to post about another topic. Well, I get to work this morning and that all flew out the window pretty quick…

A few days after Christmas two of my co-workers were involved in a car accident due to hydroplaning on standing water in the road, from what I understand the driver walked away with minor bruising but the passenger was not wearing his seat belt, he was ejected from the car and had to be air lifted to a hospital that is about 50-60 miles away because in our small town our hospital usually sends serious cases to one of two hospitals that are better equipped to handle serious injuries and health issues.

According to Wikipedia in 2015 there were 35,092 fatality accidents in the US which was an increase of 10.5% from 2014. According to the IIHS in North Carolina where I live; there were 1,275 fatal crashes resulting in 1,379 deaths, 54% were single vehicle accidents and 46% were multi-vehicle accidents. 28% were accidents were the driver had a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) equal to or greater than 0.08%

This is the important part I want to get to…Restraint Use; again in North Carolina the percent of Unrestrained Fatalities was 42% and Restrained Fatalities was 53% for 2015 which sounds bad but if you look at the below chart (which can be found here) if you look at the National Stats; the “Occupants who Survived” is 86% using restraints vs 14% without.

Another big factor is “distractions” which most people think of as Cell Phone use (talking, texting, etc) but it could also be messing with the Radio, Heat or AC, it could be children or pets in the car wanting your attention, there are a lot of things that could distract you from the road.

    Top 10 Driving Distractions

    1. Food & Drink
    2. Music
    3. Phone Calls
    4. Gawking at an Accident (trust me, we all do it)
    5. Text Messaging
    6. Seat Belt Usage (see link above for more info)
    7. Drowsy Driving
    8. Applying Makeup
    9. Facebook
    10. Twitter

I’ll be the first to admit; I have done most if not all of these at some time; however I guess as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten wiser maybe? Below is what I do in response to the above.

    1. I wait until I get home to eat my food.
    2. I set my radio/mp3 before I start driving then the only thing I may adjust would be the volume.
    3. Nope doesn’t happen at all.
    4. I try my best not to while I’m driving.
    5. No, I either wait until I get to where I’m going or I wait until I’m at a stop light/sign.
    6. I typically have my seat belt on before the car is even started.
    7. Sometimes this does happen but if I get too drowsy I will pull off and rest or get some caffeine.
    8. No I don’t even apply lip gloss while driving
    9. No; see #5
    10. No; again see #5

What is the point I’m trying to get across here? When driving PLEASE wear your seat belt and make sure all your passengers wear theirs. PLEASE do not drive distracted, not only does it put yourself and your passengers at risk but you also put innocent people on the roads at risk as well. I know sometimes we may feel like no one would miss us if we were gone but that is NOT true, whether you know it or not there are people out there that care about you and would miss you if something were to happen.

Now I’ll step down off my soap box.

Now, this is a story all about how My life got flipped-turned upside down, And I’d like to take a minute, Just sit right there…

So I figured my first post should be a little bit about myself, so buckle up it’s probably going to be a wild ride. I know I’ve linked to my Facebook page over there –>
but I’m going to try to keep some things as generic and anonymous as I can.

I am a God Serving, God Loving Christian that tries my best to do the right thing and live my life as close pleasing God as I can. I was raised in a Christian household with 2 sets of Godly Grandparents and the most Godly Great Grandmother and best example I could have ever asked for; I was truly lucky to have all these wonderful role models in my life growing up (I just lost my last grandparent (my Grandma) back in December) in addition to my grandparents, I had the pleasure of having a set of Great-Great Aunt & Uncle; and LOTS of Great Aunts & Uncles.

I have a wonderful close knit group of Family and Friends which keep me sane and grounded (No kids, but there’s my Mom & Dad, Sister & BIL (Brother-in-Law), Niece & Nephew, Aunts, Uncles & Cousins. I also have the most wonderful Boyfriend (I’m going to call him Chef, since that’s what he does and when he reads this he will probably laugh at this) who I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. He has been so supportive and encouraging to me and has been there for me to lean on when I honestly didn’t know how I was going to make it.

I’m not sure what is considered middle age anymore and I don’t like to think that I’m quite there yet; I’m still under 40 (for another year or so at least) and I’ve always been told that your only as young as you act…wait…that’s not right…it’s as young as you feel, right? Well sometimes I don’t feel so young but if you know me then you know I definitely don’t act my age. I like to have fun and joke around, one of my favorite things is the whole “That’s what he/she said” if you don’t know what that is; Click Here

I live in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina the population is somewhere around 69,000 over 757 square miles (the largest county in North Carolina land wise). We are famous for being the Moonshine Capital of the world and the birth of NASCAR. I love living here because we have the Mountains; we Beaches; we get all 4 season, I honestly couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

I am an avid reader; which this is where the blog thought process started was to talk about what I’m reading; review stuff I’ve read; forward free book downloads that are out there etc but I then I thought I might just make this blog more of a mashup; anything goes kind of thing (isn’t that what most people do on their blogs anyway?) My favorite genre to read is Mystery/Thriller but I really like all kinds of Fiction, the only thing I’m not crazy about is the Romance Novels, however some of the books I read could very easily fall into that category.

I love movies, TV & sports, my favorite type of movies are Horror #1 then it’s a tie between Action/Adventure, Comedy, Thriller/Mystery, Etc. I’m not real crazy about most SciFi because I really don’t like the Alien type movies, however Star Wars is an exception that case in my book. As far as TV I watch so many different things, my DVR is so full that I have to delete things that I hope will come back up on reruns at some point or that I can find on Netflix to watch later. Sports, I love College Basketball (GO TARHEELS!!) Football (Both College {again, TARHEELS} and Pro {Panthers} yes I pull for the hometown teams) I also like Baseball (Braves) and (don’t hate) I like Wrestling…I’ve gotten to where I don’t care much for WWE but I like TNA Impact & Lucha Underground MUCH better! Chef and I will go to local wrestling matches some weekends and have so much fun.

I’ve met some of the guys & girls from Lucha (which my favorite of the three) they were all so super nice and very accommodating when talking with them and asking for pictures. I’ve met a few from TNA and with them it’s kind of hit & miss; some where very nice, others acted like they didn’t want to be bothered. I’ve met a few of the “Old School” wrestlers from the WCW days and they were awesome to talk with but some of the newer WWE guys again weren’t all that accommodating. (Note: when I met most of these it was a meet & greet at an event so they were being paid to be there)

Okay let’s see….what else….OH Yeah; Job…I work in the office for a manufacturing facility; right now we are all SOOO incredibly swamped with work that we all have multiple titles it seems. My office job title is Administrative Assistant…but I am also the Production Scheduler, Shipping Coordinator, I guess you could add Material Handler since I relieve inventory for items used in the manufacturing process. In addition to that I order Office Supplies, handle Incoming & Outgoing Mail, Receptionist, Complaint Department… lol

Okay so I guess I’ve bored you enough for now; if you are reading this please leave a comment below as to any comments on this post, let me know what you would like to hear more about, what would you like to see in future, what would you not like to see…I’m pretty much an open book and I’ll answer any questions honestly and openly (within reason of course)
